When creating an online portfolio I am of the opinion that it is best to show the work as quickly as possible when the user loads your website in their browser. This means that they will not be distracted by other sections of the website and also prevent them from leaving before they have even viewed your work.
For my own website I have adapted a slightly different approach than a more conventional website by having my work page as the homepage of the website. The reason for this is simple, its the fastest way possible to display your work to the user.
I have tried to showcase my work through the use of images rather than text as I feel the majority of people who are viewing my website will be more interested in my finished product. However I have provided a list of the skills I used when developing each project.
All of the work I have displayed on my website I have either worked on in my previous role with Lairdesign or freelance work I have got myself.

Specification of my site
The site is created with the best use of XHTML and CSS, and uses WordPress as a Content Management system. The design and development of the WordPress theme was accomplished on Mac OS X 10.5 using Adobe Photoshop for the design, BBEdit for hand-coding templates, and Transmit for FTPing files.
